TOP TEN REASONS TO DO MARCHING BAND
1. Marching Bands, like drum corps and indoor guard and percussion, are all-inclusive. It is a high school activity that creates an environment in which males and females are on equal footing; in which tall kids and short kids, skinny kids and heavy kids can co-exist in the same positive organization; in which freshman and seniors must learn to work together; in which honor students and struggling students stand side-by-side while working towards a common goal. These related activities provide positive psychological and sociological benefits that help each participant mature and accept responsibilities. 2. It’s FUN! 3. It’s educational. In the hands of the right instructors who teach from the perspective of respect and positive reinforcement; who have the ability to motivate and inspire; who use “competition” as a factor, not an end-all; who teach in a style that is transferable to brass and woodwinds, drums, mallets, flags, sabers, etc; who can analyze, communicate and prescribe solutions - the time spent will be fulfilling and rewarding. 4. It’s FUN! 5. It teaches valuable life lessons such as dedication, hard work, individual and collective responsibilities and respect for others. 6. It’s FUN! 7.
